WHO WE ARE
The Jangir Maddadi Design Bureau provides innovative design for public and private spaces, interior and exterior. Our goal is clear: to create unique pieces that are both functional and beautiful. Our designs have strength and character. Our products are 100% Swedish-made. Before we manufacture our pieces, we scour all of Sweden to find the very best producers with the highest expertise in their fields. Every millimeter of a JMDB design is contemplated and discussed. Each object has its own story and identity. Since the launch of our first product, we have sought to fulfill our desire to offer freedom to our clients. Freedom to choose, no limitations. Our designs are neither modern nor classic, they are timeless.
PHILOSOPHY
“Never content with the ordinary, we seek beyond what already exists, forcing ourselves to find the next step. We take risks, breathing life into the quotidian, mundane objects of our world. We give these objects the integrity that they deserve by initiating our own unique designs to a world of the “normal.” We owe it to all people, in this generation and those to come, to create innovative pieces that are both impeccably functional and breathtakingly beautiful.”
JANGIR MADDADI
Thirty-two year old Jangir Maddadi, a Kurdish-born immigrant designed the Union Bench in 2006 in Sweden, in an effort to people comfort in a natural, free-flowing way. In doing so, Maddadi broke with traditional public furniture design by creating something that was both impeccably functional and breathtakingly beautiful. “I wanted to enhance the urban experience,” says Maddadi, who just two years after establishing his business was awarded Sweden’s coveted Entrepreneur Award.
Maddadi designs with the strong influences of Scandinavian minimalism coupled with the socially com- plex surroundings of his personal history ingrained in him a need to create pieces that used simple forms and changed conventional structure to allow a new functionality, giving people 360 degrees of freedom. The Compound Collection, an imaginative series of four separate but combinable forms available in foam, fiberglass, wood, and concrete. The theory of the Compound Collection is that the designer of the space is given free reign to decide how many seats they would like and in what shapes. Maddadi’s latest products are the Droid lamp and Butler. Droid lamp is born of Maddadi’s fascination with outer space and of the future, made with exquisite quality and the latest LED technology. Butler, a public waste bin, has succeeded in providing interior designers with a graceful form in a traditionally undervalued object. Maddadi’s ideas continue to proliferate back at his studio in Sweden, where everyday, new sketches begin the process of becoming finished objects. With the persistence of every entrepreneur, and the imagination of a designer, Maddadi’s long career in luxury design continues to unfold.
