Original BTC is one the leading British lighting brands, balancing traditional and contemporary aesthetics. Their handmade lights, manufactured in England, enrich homes and commercial spaces worldwide by creating beautiful, functional illumination and adding depth with their meticulous finishes.
The company was founded in 1990 by Peter Bowles. Design, quality, and attention to detail are at the forefront of their products. Two additional brands operate under the Original BTC umbrella: the heritage marine lighting brand Davey Lighting, and LED lighting specialist Beadlight, each bringing unique products, skills, and facilities.
Deeply committed to local and sustainable production, Original BTC runs its own facilities, including a ceramics factory, glass factory, and metalworks. Their HQ and assembly factory are based in Witney, Oxfordshire.
Original BTC’s founder, Peter Bowles, was the first designer to use fine bone china in the context of lighting. Quality and a mix of materials are key. Bone china, glass, and metal shades are paired with polished, satin, chromed, or bone china bases, offset by the brand’s signature cotton braided flex. The comprehensive catalogue includes utilitarian, statement, and stripped-back designs, all united by a focus on longevity, craft, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of production.
Original BTC lights are specified for commercial projects around the world and also adorn many beautiful private homes. You can discover the collection in person at the brand’s six standalone showrooms located in London's Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, Paris, New York, Munich, and Taiping and Taichung.
