Robert M. Rogers
Profile
ROGERS PARTNERS Architects+Urban Designers is a studio of forty architects, urban designers and landscape architects. Rogers Partners engages the world of design with the creativity and rigor for which Founding Partner, Robert M. Rogers, FAIA and his teams have been recognized.
Since its founding in 2013, Rogers Partners has embraced a new commitment for how cities are conceived and built, and the changing role architects play in shaping them. With a de-emphasis on fantasy drawings or masterplans, and not limited to solely making buildings, we lead teams structured intellectually and geographically to realize our projects with specificity and vision. We practice the discipline of architecture, engage science and foster the imagination to create buildings, environments and realms.
We believe that great design engages all disciplines and that the spaces we create are as important as its buildings and forms. We focus on what you see as well as what you don’t. We explore the impact of both small and big things. To us, both matter equally. Our practice is built on research, analysis, discovery and shared experiences. We design for today with tomorrow in mind. Above all, we create buildings that work, projects that last, and designs that delight.
Biography
Robert M. Rogers, FAIA – Founding Partner
Rob is the founding partner of ROGERS PARTNERS Architects+Urban Designers. Believing that even a single building is a piece of urban design, Rob has been creating institutional and cultural buildings that are civic projects for over 30 years. His work explores the edges of architecture and the overlap of disciplines: the spaces where architecture, landscapes and the public realm converge.
In addition to directing design for the Henderson-Hopkins School, Rob is currently overseeing the redesign of Constitution Gardens and new pavilion on the National Mall in Washington, DC; Buckhead Park Over GA400, a seven-acre park over a highway in Atlanta, GA; the New St. Petersburg Pier, a competition-winning new design of an iconic city pier in St. Petersburg, FL; and a new K-8 school integrated into the Drexel University campus in downtown Philadelphia, PA.
Rob is also an accomplished author and architectural theorist. His recent book, Learning Through Practice, demonstrates how architects learn by practicing and by designing... Not just by solving problems, but by changing the problems themselves.
An active lecturer, Rob has taught at academic institutions around the country including Pratt Institute, Columbia University, Harvard University, Yale University, Rice University, Washington University in St Louis, Syracuse University, Iowa State University, Parsons the New School for Design, the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), and Tulane University. He has also lectured on urban design and security in Lower Manhattan for the National Capitol Planning Commission and the National Academy of Sciences and was the keynote speaker for the National Building Museum's Spotlight on Design and the Malaysian Institute of Architects in Datum, Kuala Lumpur.
Rob has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor in Architecture from Rice University and a Master of Design Studies, with distinction, from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
