Most recently, SkB was honored with a 2015 American Institute of Architects Award of Merit for their work on 400 Fairview, an innovative 13-story office and retail building in Seattle’s rapidly evolving South Lake Union neighborhood.
Shannon Gaffney
Shannon Gaffney is co-managing partner, chief creative director and one of the founding principals of SkB Architects. Based in Seattle, Washington, Shannon is an architect, interior designer and planner shaping a diverse range of places from mixed-use, commercial office buildings, workplace, restaurants, retail spaces, residential and furniture products. Her in-depth knowledge on workplace design has led to creating not only forward-thinking, inspiring places to work but has also led to rethinking typical norms in office building typology and social gathering places in the public realm.
She is recognized speaker on design and design trends and was featured at the 2017 World Design Summit in Montreal, Canada where she co-presented on SkB's work with Microsoft to develop a Global Design Language for Place. Select project work includes Willis Tower façade concept design, Tommy Bahama Headquarters, Boston Consulting Group Seattle office, Holland America Group HQ, 400 Fairview (Skanska Commercial Development), 700 Dexter (BioMed Realty) and the headquarters for KEXP 90.3 FM.
Kyle Gaffney
As one of the founding partners and lead designers at SkB Architects Kyle Gaffney has developed a reputation for designing buildings and interiors that are as programmatically and technically innovative as they are cost and resource conscious. With twenty five years of experience in both interior and exterior architecture, he designs projects based on the belief that the environment (interior and/or exterior) can positively influence the way people live, work, play and learn. His balance between subtle detail and bold composition continue to produce unique and award winning projects.
Kyle is responsible for SkB's residential home practice and has designed many private homes throughout the Western United States. Additional select project work includes Willis Tower façade concept design, 400 Fairview (Skanska Commercial Development), 700 Dexter (BioMed Realty), the Manson Barn, Wild Ginger restaurants, La Marzocco, and the headquarters for KEXP 90.3 FM.
Brian Collins-Friedrichs
Brian Collins-Friedrichs is one of the founding principals and has over 30 years of experience in the industry as a designer, manager, coordinator, and adviser. His expertise resides in the blending of the creative with the technical - always working collaboratively to find resolutions that resonate with the needs of the users and foster interaction. He has led the design and management efforts for clients such as BioMed Realty (700 Dexter), WSECU 45th St, Microsoft, Philips, Sur la Table, and Skanska Commercial Development.
Steve Olson
As a Principal with SkB Architects Steve Olson's primarily performs the role of Project Manager. Steve’s professional career has been largely focused on commercial and corporate work, and he has been at the helm of many complex, high profile projects. With over 20 years of experience in the architectural industry Steve’s broad expertise in project management, programming, design development, and construction administration has not only been an asset to SkB but has provided thoughtful guidance to many prominent clients such as Vulcan Real Estate, Unico, Alexandria Real Estate, 90.3 KEXP FM, Tommy Bahama, Upstream Music Fest + Summit and Microsoft.
