Love of wood, closeness to nature, and exquisite craftsmanship are the hallmarks of Van Rossum. For over 40 years, we have designed and handmade solid and sustainable oak furniture from our workshop in the Netherlands.
All our oak is FSC-certified and sourced from the French National Forestry Service, from trees that are at least 50 years old. Our suppliers know every tree that will come up for auction, ensuring that we work with the strongest, finest wood.
Time means quality. Our oak timber is left to rest for a minimum of two years before being transported to our workshop. When it arrives at Van Rossum, the wood is further seasoned in special climate-controlled chambers for up to one year, depending on the thickness of the wood.
Each piece of Van Rossum furniture is handmade in our headquarters in Bergharen, the Netherlands. The quality of our wood is matched by the excellence of our craftsmen and women. Their special knowledge of French oak, including its closed structure and tannin, combines with a passion for oak’s beauty and the unique character of each piece of Van Rossum furniture. We respect the longevity of the oak and design all our furniture to last a lifetime and beyond.
We cherish the age and character of the oak we work with and specialize in end grain surfaces. This rich textural finish occurs when the wood is cut at a 90-degree angle to the trunk length to reveal the patterns of its age rings and graining. Our collection includes several tables composed of 7×7 cm end grain squares.
Almost all of the Van Rossum collection can be tailored to individual needs. Whether you are looking for particular dimensions, colour, details, or finishing, our team is expert at customising furniture for your home or project.
Environmental responsibility is at the heart of what we do. All our furniture is FSC certified, meaning we only use wood from reliable forestry services. We also ensure that no part of the oak tree goes to waste. Our warehouse, factory, and climate-controlled drying chambers are all heated using waste timber. Surplus bark and sawdust are sent on for charcoal and chipboard manufacture.
We delight in design partnerships to take oak in bold and beautiful directions. In addition to our in-house collection, we are honoured to collaborate with leading designers, architects, and creatives on special collections and interior projects.
