Walter Papst, born in 1924, studied at the Muthesius-Werkkunstschule, Kiel. From 1957 to 1974 he had a studio for industrial design and product development in Cologne. Today Papst is concerned with futurology and is an author, primarily in France. For Wilkhahn, he constructed a three-legged wooden chair (model 360/2) at the end of the 1950s that was produced for children and adults. His industrial products in polyester with their avant-garde design won high-calibre awards (Triennale Milan, Museé des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, Gute Industrieform iF, Hanover): his range of children’s furniture, including the famous “Rocking Sculpture” and a garden bench.
