Introducing Old&New - a project that seamlessly blends opposing elements to create a playful and intriguing space. The design plays with contrasts, combining rough concrete with warm wood and modern recycled plastic materials. It incorporates forms and narratives reminiscent of the client's grandmother, such as vintage mirrors, rattan and carpets.
We have long and carefully worked out his style to combine modern details with elements of vintage. We selected warm wood and soft textures of carpets and textiles, mixed them with steel tables, recycled plastic and old mirror frames. We worked on color, duplicated shades and textures and everything to make the interior look whole after a long diffusion, despite the many accent details.
We introduced some "humorous" elements into the apartment, such as a mirror in the guest bathroom, as well as shelves in the proportions and likeness of Donald Judd's work.
Despite coming from different eras, these elements blend together harmoniously, just like how a person's past, present, and future can coexist in harmony. The bold use of colors, including shades of green, orange, and red, further accentuates the playful nature of the project.
What sets this project apart is not just the colors used, but also the way they interact with natural materials like marble, wood, and concrete. The result is a space that feels both fresh and timeless.
Despite the small area, the majority of the space was given to the private area in the form of a bedroom, bathroom and wardrobe. We created a private area with a connected bathroom and bedroom in a small space. And what's more, lying in the bathtub provides a stunning view of the slopes of the Dnieper river in Kyiv.
This is one of our most daring projects, precisely because it was finished during the full-scale war in Ukraine. The client completely trusted us and our expertise, so we could inscribe her own story between the walls.
