In the need of impact of cultural centers, and more important, to communicate the relevance of national cultural heritage to the youngest, the Ministry of Culture commissioned Multidisciplinary design studio based in Guadalajara, Mexico, Estudio 3.14 in order to achieve this mission
Susana Chavez, Director of museums and exhibitions told us, "we have a Sedan car", - things in Mexican culture affairs are hard - so we started speaking inflatable. Such constructive system allows you to get to every school yard, unroll and inflate and - once inside - be somewhere else. It's like a tradicional mexican tianguis, a travelling market that once it gets into your neighborhood, you wont find your own door easily. That experience is what we seek in this project, the transformation of everyday's reality towards knowledge.
Thanks to the scientific script written by the archeologist Ericka Blanco, this plastic landscape was translated to a resourceful design by Norberto Miranda, Culture affairs director of Estudio 3.14.
We wanted to take elementary school students in the quest for the family of a lost child that they meet in an introductory video. The family members, distributed amongst the museum, are working the most common tasks within the Teuchitlan tradition, children are divided in groups and encouraged to imitate actions and obtain diverse objects so they get to know agriculture channels, net fishing, ceramic and obsidian work, as well as domestic space and activities. At the end of the visit, they assign values to the recollected objects and they exchange them, all within the scenery of a typical town center like the one in Guachimontones.
The 30 meter, 30 minute curve trip avoids visual dominance of the space, giving a mysterous sensation about whats next, always inviting to take the next step. That is how we try to inspire our children to take care of our national heritage.
