The European Central Bank in Frankfurt am Main, designed and implemented by the architects of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU, is one of the ten tallest buildings on the Frankfurt skyline and the offices, internal meeting rooms and corridors were fitted with over 67 000 m2 of Kugelgarn®. In the main building in Frankfurt's Ostend district, Kugelgarn® modules were laid in Creation granit 320 quality, which has several advantages: among other things, installation can be carried out with very little waste and even complicated contours can be cut without great effort. The modules do not require a heavy backing, but still have excellent self-laying properties. On 40 office floors, the Kugelgarn® modules provide the basis for an open and communicative working atmosphere, which also benefits from the transparent walls that allow light to enter. This also benefits from the transparent walls, which allow plenty of daylight into the different areas.

A total of 3065 employees from all over Europe currently work in the main building, walking over the Kugelgarn® modules and using the various rooms every day. A look into various areas has shown that the Kugelgarn® modules are a homogenous surface even eight years after the opening and absolutely withstand the high stresses and strains. The users themselves are also convinced of this. "Due to the high robustness of Kugelgarn® and the uncomplicated cleaning, we continue to be very satisfied with the choice of flooring," says Silke Schuler-Engelhard from the Construction Project Management Section of the European Central Bank. This shows that Kugelgarn® is economical to maintain, as regular brush vacuuming is sufficient and neither water nor cleaning agents are needed. In the event of a larger, difficult-to-remove stain, there is also the simple option of replacing individual Kugelgarn® modules, whereby the daily office routine can continue without disruption. This calculation pays off above all because of the long service life of the textile floor covering.
