The former Hall 87 on the Sulzerareal site in Winterthur is part of the plot that Implenia bought in 2011. With the help of local architects P&B Partner Architekten AG, Implenia renovated City Hall, the old industrial hall that is now a protected monument. Their tasks included removing the asbestos from the shingle facade and the contaminated floor areas, insulating the building envelope to Minergie standards and connecting the building to the district heating grid. The industrial hall has been transformed into the main library of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), giving this old building a new lease of life, opening it up to the public and following the principles of compact urban development. The university is planning to construct its new main building on the Sulzerareal site over the next few years.
