The magic of a unique original
Michael Schmidt, “Luxury can be represented just as well with minimalist design as with a statement opulent product exterior. The target geographical market being designed for plays a key role. Many of the shared preferences of consumers in Middle or Far Eastern countries differ considerably, for example, from the European taste for sheer minimalist, clear design language. Consumers are looking for real, authentic products with a hint of handmade charm. This need can be addressed with different style solutions”.
Handmade is the latest of five collections designed by Michael Schmidt for the Italian manufacturer Falper. Handmade first appeared in 2014 with a countertop washbasin, followed by a bathtub, a freestanding washbasin and a washbasin unit in 2015. The delicate, minimalistic collection has instant appeal, looking more like fine hand-made porcelain than a piece from series production. Every ridge or bump makes us think of an artist shaping a unique, distinctive object – and yet Handmade was completely designed using a computer.
The fine contours and delicate sides of the collection would suggest fine china, however the pieces are actually made of a high-grade mineral material, perfectly suited to everyday use.
