One Bedford Avenue is a new landmark office and retail development in London’s West End that occupies a prominent corner site at the south end of Tottenham Court Road close to Bedford Square and the British Museum. The building provides 71,000 sq.ft of high quality office space over seven floors with 14,000 sq.ft of retail at ground and basement level.
The strong external form of the building, created from a simple rhythm of reconstituted stone fins and dramatic tapering terraces belies the rich narrative of the interiors; a story which not only pays homage to the demise of the electronic retail industry on Tottenham court Road but also alludes to the development of the area into London’s new tech hub, echoed by the nature of the tenants secured.
The building was designed to align with the client and funder’s aspiration of quality, utility and efficiency in order to attract long term commitment from blue-chip companies such as Skyscanner and William Hill.
The commitment to excellence is evident in the washrooms where a simple palette of high quality materials has been used to create a refined, uncluttered space with clean lines and pure forms. A wall of black veneered cubicle doors acts as a strong counterpoint to the crisp, white, monolithic basins in Hi-Macs by Not Only White. A small stripe of yellow is the only colour in the space and references the cycle changing rooms where Not Only White have created a collection of shelves, hooks, seats and benches. These fit perfectly into the tiling modules on the walls and floors contributing to an overall cohesion that gives the space a spa-like feel. For this project, Not Only White applied their Custom Design Service. With this service, they can engineer a unique solution that will fit perfectly within the possibilities of any project.
