In an apartment within a 1960s building in the Nemorense-Trieste district of Rome, the owners, a couple of art collectors, desired a custom-made home featuring a rich variety of materials, with natural light as a defining element. The original layout was quite segmented, divided into several rooms, but Punto Zero intervened with a design that blends raw materials like exposed concrete and iron with warmer elements, such as soft hues and parquet wood, creating a fluid and versatile space.
"We first exposed the structure’s pillars, walls, and beams, which we paired with oak wood parquet in a strong tone, alternating it with a continuous material like resin in different colors. This allowed us to create monochromatic capsule spaces: blue and green were used in the entryway, kitchen, and bedroom to distinguish them from the large living room, where some accents appear," explain architects Giorgio Marchese and Arianna Nobile.
From the entryway, a capsule in a deep green tone, you enter the house’s new brightness after just a few steps. The living room is characterized by the presence of exposed concrete and the contrasting green chromed partition with two openings: one frames the corner designed for quick meals, overlooking the terrace through the large glass window; the other leads to the entryway, where built-in wardrobes and a sliding panel door can screen off the sleeping area when needed. The final feature is the furnished wall, with two raw iron sheet bookshelves embedded into it. Soft, voluminous sofas are freely positioned in the space, along with "Chiodino," a design piece from the Franca and Allegra collection, designed by Punto Zero.
Like the entryway, the kitchen becomes a colored capsule: the custom-made green lacquered cabinetry contrasts with the countertop and backsplash in Guatemala green marble.
The sleeping area alternates between cozy, soft spaces and brighter areas: one bathroom is a total vinaccia-colored box, featuring a breccia viola marble sink, while the other is brighter, with yellow resin finishes and a large Carrara marble sink. The master bedroom opens with an anteroom of blue-green wardrobes, which provide contrast to the large window leading to the balcony.
