Universal Music is the worlds largest record label.
Their Danish office is located in an old classified building in the heart of Copenhagen and when the music label needed to expand designer Sara Martinsen was asked to do the full make over. Everything except for baring walls and façade was removed and from here the renovation of the 1200 m2 workspace could begin.
The former space was a very standard workspace so a drastic transformation of all 1200 m2 was needed if the future space should include all the function demands that a record label could possibly have; a mini stage for release concerts, a cantina that could be transformed into an area for events and an audio room with the best possible acoustic. ‘I needed to ensure to tell the story about music and talent in every little detail. Especially in the reception area where you arrive with butterflies in your stomach and also in the meeting rooms where the contract is signed. All materials are good solid materials and tell a story about leverage, time and effort. The heavy curtains somehow set the stage and also function as sound absorbing surfaces to ensure good acoustics in all rooms’, says Sara Martinsen.
The heart of the office is the audio room where all musicians go to listen to their recordings. Here you have the classic set up with a big couch and acoustic walls but instead of a red leather sofa and foam tiles mounted on all surfaces Sara decided to bring a more elegant and classic feel to the room and custom design the acoustic 3D haringbone panels especially for Universal Music.
The work space was finalized in May 2017 and is an elegant and convincing space where you sense the professionalism of the company in all aspects of the interior.
