Where is the apartment and what are its characteristics?
Berlin Prenzlauer Berg, side street, garden house ground floor and 1st floor (connected), Wilhelminian style old building without historical decorative elements in the rooms.
What do you see and hear when you open the windows?
From the kitchen you can see the front building and the green inner courtyard, from the living room you can see the part of the garden and the back of the next building on the neighboring street. Quiet location due to rear building.
What was the order, what were the wishes of the client?
Supervision of the complete conversion / renovation of the newly acquired apartment. We became aware of various publications. Liked our style. The apartment should be more airy and lighter, since the ground floor is quite dark. Change of floor plan of the small apartment division, flexible design of the guest and children's area, special bathrooms.
What have you changed structurally? Were there any strange details?
Complete dismantling of the interior walls (drywall from previous conversion), integration of the first floor bathroom into the bedroom, opening of the windows in the living room to the floor. Curious details: After dismantling, it was revealed that the connecting staircase to the upper floor was built more or less without side walls and was only intercepted by a drywall construction.
What was the biggest challenge within this order?
Getting light into the apartment and integrating the bathrooms the way we wanted.
Which highlight/detail in the submitted project are you particularly proud of?
The open bathroom in the bedroom with glass wall and shower cubicle.
To what extent does the new interior allow conclusions to be drawn about its occupants?
Customers very interested in art. A spacious, open floor plan for a young family, which also offers sufficient privacy through sophisticated partitions / sliding doors.
