At the beginning of 2016, a new bistro called Strudls was opened in Vienna's 7th District. Although the company focuses on local cuisine, seasonal menus and local raw materials, you will not find classic looking strudel on the menu. Not only the strudels, but also the soups and salads are interpreted in a fresh, contemporary spirit.
This is also transmitted onto the visual concept of the interior, designed by the .MEGATABS architects interdisciplinary studio. Especial emphasis was placed on the flooring. It is composed of handmade Spanish cement tiles in the shape of hexagons – the motif that also appears in the company´s logo; at the same time, the interior adapted its colour concept – an interplay of white and gray. From the floor grows a similarly visually conceived bar, which thus becomes the connecting link and focal point of the interior.
The second visually dominant material is oak wood. It is used as the bar-counter´s top panel as well as the TON Merano brand chairs and barstools, designed by Alexander Gufler, a young Italian designer living in Vienna. These products, with their unusual shapes, based on a combination of solid wood with harmoniously shaped bent-plywood seats and backrests, reinforce the unique look of the whole interior. The feeling of warmth that the wood offers is then also reflected in the tones of the lighting system. This is reinforced by a series of industrial vintage lamps scattered across the ceiling.
