Lean into the curve: Erica ‘19 by B&B Italia

This year, Erica, another favourite design from B&B Italia’s sought-after outdoor collection, has also been augmented with new permutations. This family of sofas, armchairs and small chairs, launched in 2017, now welcomes new sofas. Both the existing designs and the newcomers share one important trait: an enveloping, curvaceous backrest with a woven backrest and frame cradling the capacious seat. But, the new variations have deeper seats and a more relaxed vibe.

The Erica sofas now come in three extra-comfortable sizes. Those measuring 170cm and 216cm now boast a 96cm-deep seat, while the 153cm-long sofa has a super-luxurious 140cm-deep seat for reclining on, conducive for reading, working on a laptop or for a blissfully indulgent afternoon siesta.

Accentuating the sofas' softer aspect are its accompanying cushions with a new filling that renders them even more inviting. The cushions arranged against the backrest are particularly enticing when multiplied and casually layered. This sense of comfort is underscored by the backrest cushions’ tactile, textured surfaces and soothing palette of colours, which echo many of the hues found elsewhere in the collection: a misty heather mauve, the softest sage green, chalky pink, faded blue and dove grey.

A vast range of cushion covers in myriad, coordinating tones illustrates just how flexible the collection is. Ultimately, there is a romantic flavour to Erica ‘19, the almost rustic quality of the woven backrest finding an ideal companion in the pastel-coloured palette of the new sofas’ sturdy frames and beautifully seductive upholstery.
