Lichtteam AG was created by the merger of the two long-established firms Sphinx Lichttechnik AG and Licht Galerie AG. Whether at its trendy city location in Lucerne’s Neustadt district or at its headquarters in Rothenburg, with one of the biggest showrooms for designer lighting in the whole of Switzerland, Lichtteam AG is a leading name in the designed light sector.

And then there’s its own brand: LIGALICHT. Its own collection actually arose out of necessity. ‘About eight years ago, when LED technology was starting to find its way into decorative luminaires, we couldn’t always find the luminaires or the quality we would have liked on the market. Thanks to our many years of experience in the trade and because we could meet the necessary technical requirements, we decided to design and build luminaires ourselves. That was the birth of LIGALICHT,’ explains Martin Garn, lighting designer, interior architect and member of the management team.

To begin with, the luminaries were only produced on a small scale and deployed in the company’s own projects – with great success. But the foundations for a collection and distribution via Swiss dealers were soon laid. ‘Ever since, we’ve been developing and producing luminaires for the Swiss market under the motto by dealers, for dealers. LIGALICHT combines state-of-the-art technologies with traditional craftsmanship and design. We guarantee quality, functionality, ease of installation and sustainability in terms of both maintenance and operation,’ says Martin Garn.

The LED technology permits solutions that wouldn’t have been feasible in the past. The minimalist flat suspension light Spi was one of the first and very successful luminaires that hit the right chord at the time and was fitted above many a dining table and desk. ‘Today there’s less demand for Spi. More decorative luminaires are popular right now,’ says Martin Garn.

But LIGALICHT has solutions for those tastes too. In collaboration with Glasi Hergiswil, for instance, it created the pendant lamps Ary and Evi, which evoke glowing drops and crystals.

And the latest model, a floor lamp by the name of Ella, is equally sophisticated and decorative. Along with the creative elements, the technical features are always a top priority of any design. By integrating Bluetooth control units from Finnish firm Casambi, for instance, the luminaires can be activated and dimmed without the need for complex electrical wiring.

‘Nowadays there’s a little chip-sized computer behind virtually every luminaire that can be used to regulate both the intensity and colour temperature of the light, depending on the model,’ explains Martin Garn. New and exciting products are in the pipeline, and LIGALICHT is looking forward to a bright future.
