×First impressions count. That is just as true of household appliances as it is of personal encounters. “With Gaggenau, the products’ looks are just as compelling as their inner values,” says Max Leuenberger, CEO of BSH Hausgeräte AG. Besides its own brands Bosch and Siemens, the company is also responsible for distributing the high-end Gaggenau appliances throughout Switzerland.

×Functional design
But because first impressions aren’t all that matters, Gaggenau delivers on its promises every step of the way. The usability of the appliances is convincing right down to the last detail. Max Leuenberger: “They’re very simple to use. Gaggenau deliberately avoids unnecessary functions and gimmicks. Rather than relying on various programmes to do the cooking for them, our users adjust the settings by hand – just like professional chefs.” The design of the high-end brand’s appliances plays an essential role and originates from the in-house design department. “The biggest challenge is that the unique design has to be functional as well. The combination works best when designers and developers work closely with one another – and I believe our current range is impressive proof of that,” says the CEO.

דYou can literally feel the exceptional quality of the materials used for the Gaggenau appliances: the doors of our ovens alone are a technical masterpiece in that respect.” And if you open the door, you discover more top-quality details within. Gaggenau has had plenty of time to achieve a very special kind of expertise: the firm has been acquiring valuable skills for the production of enamelled ovens ever since it started making enamel signs back in 1683. Today the typical blue Gaggenau enamel is a recognised hallmark and a symbol of the brand’s quality – and its formula a closely guarded trade secret.

×And what about the trends in the high-end kitchen segment right now? Max Leuenberger: “Connectivity – i.e. linking various appliances via wireless LAN – is definitely the main talking point in the field of electrical appliances. Various suppliers have been making advances on and off for a long time. But now that apps and tablets are commonplace, connectivity is starting to take more concrete shape. Whether and how consumers use it is something that only time will tell.”
