Heimtextil: Green solutions in focus

One of the best-known tools for interior designers and architects at Heimtextil (7–10 January 2020 in Frankfurt) is the Green Directory. The index, which has now become a standard work, will be published in its 10th edition in 2020. It lists pioneering companies in the field of sustainability in a clear and up-to-date manner. At the trade fair itself, the compact directory leads visitors straight to all the sustainably producing exhibitors in the halls. An identifier on each stand facilitates orientation. In addition, the Green Directory provides information about seal providers and certifiers and highlights interesting events on the subject of sustainability. A free Heimtextil service, the directory is available to take away from several stations at the fair and is also available online (see link below).

The UN in the Green Village
The political urgency of the issue of sustainability is reflected in Heimtextil’s cooperation with the United Nations (UN) Office. From 2020, the UN will take part in the trade fair in Frankfurt and at many other textile trade fairs organised by Messe Frankfurt worldwide. With its stand presentation and keynote speech, the UN will be presenting its 17 Sustainable Development Goals and will be campaigning on the international stage for socially and environmentally fair textile production.

At Heimtextil 2020, the UN stand will be located in the Green Village in hall 12.0 A40/A41. This special area has already established itself as a fixed meeting point and serves as an excellent hub for both exhibitors and visitors on all questions to do with green issues. Seal providers and certifiers are among those introducing themselves here and offering companies their support in acting more sustainably. Furthermore, on the Green Tours, renowned experts will guide participants to interesting presentations and suppliers at Heimtextil, some of which will be new.

Topic permeates halls
Beyond these two genuinely green trade fair specials, the theme of sustainability permeates almost the entire Heimtextil. In addition to Heimtextil Trends 2020, the Trend Space (hall 3.0) also presents the Future Materials Library. This collection focuses specifically on the properties and production methods of innovative materials. The focus is on recycled materials as well as cultivated, so-called living textiles – and much more.

And in the halls, more and more Heimtextil exhibitors are also showcasing their high levels of activity in this area. Exciting innovations for the contract sector can be found from companies such as Froca, who have developed a Teflon-free upholstery fabric line based on nanotechnology that can be cleaned with pure water. Products by exhibitors such as Cerda Fabrics or Essegomma are odourless, breathable, antibacterial and anti-allergenic. They have sound-absorbing abilities and/or clean the air in the room thanks to their special characteristics. The Green Directory provides an almost complete overview of all suppliers in this sector, including contact details and stand numbers at Heimtextil 2020.
