×A word difficult to define yet simple in practice, Hygge is all about happy living: creating a warm, comfortable and cosy atmosphere to achieve contentment in all areas of life. It is through Hygge that Danish design – a continual influence on design trends for the best part of a century – brings the importance of wellness to worldwide markets.
Hyg’s high sides and back encase the user in a world of calm, while a broad seat encourages a range of sitting positions. Constructed from moulded PU foam over a strong steel frame, Hyg’s sculpted lumbar support embodies the world of Hygge

דAs an integral part of Danish culture, Hygge emerges in the trustworthy and informal atmosphere that permeates our working culture.” says Simon Legald, designer of Normann Copenhagen’s Hyg lounge series. “It also comes through in our way of thinking about design, which is built around honesty in the design concept and a love of social and domestic life."
The Hyg chair is Legald’s translation of the concept into a physical embodiment. “My vision for Hyg was to create a room within the room; a place that gives you a feeling of peace and security, with an expressivity that is playful and free.” Legald tells of his design intentions. “The design’s concave form invites contemplation. You can snuggle into the armchair with a cup of coffee and a book, while the sofa version brings the focus towards the centre; towards companionship and conversation.”
The cocooning form of the Hyg series adds a sense of privacy to hectic environments, making the collection suitable for contemplative areas in loud public spaces, such as shopping centre rest areas, train station and airport lounges and office reception or break-out spaces.
