×Conceived as a collaborative activity rather than a competitive one where teams in this activity are composed by students from different schools and backgrounds. The program is an important part of WantedDesign, and has been very successful in promoting the schools, fostering the creation of an international network of young designers, as well as in initiating partnerships between schools and manufacturers. The International group of students will be asked to explore this year’s theme: “HyperHybrid”.
Conducted by the Pratt Institute with Constantin Boym, Industrial Design Chair, and Ignacio Urbina Polo, Associate Professor of Industrial Design, the International group of students will be asked to explore this year’s theme: “HyperHybrid”. The challenge is the ideation of projects that celebrate differences through multifunction objects and a production process that combines new technologies with the traditional making process and materials.

American Design Honors Presented with Bernhardt Design
American Design Honors 2017 recipients: Studio Gorm
At WantedDesign Manhattan
Launched in 2015, American Design Honors was created by WantedDesign co-founders Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, and Jerry Helling, President of Bernhardt Design, to recognize up-and-coming American designers who embody excellence in creative design and superior entrepreneurial ability. For consideration, candidates must possess a solid body of work, express a unique design language and offer a pioneering new design business model.
Through the American Design Honors program, Bernhardt Design and WantedDesign aim to promote exceptional American Design on the broader international arena while providing a means of support for young designers seeking to amplify their impact and reach.
The selection of Studio Gorm, speaks volumes to the quality of work and vision of John and Wonhee Arndt. As American Design Honors program recipients, Studio Gorm will create an installation at WantedDesign Manhattan that will showcase the diversity and mastery of their work.
Studio Gorm was founded in 2007 by John Arndt and Wonhee Jeong-Arndt. They met when studying at the Design Academy of Eindhoven. After graduating they spent a year in Rotterdam before they settled down in Eugene, Oregon.
“We look towards the future with positivity and enthusiasm. The US is known as the land of opportunity for a reason. It is a place rich with creative talent, resources, entrepreneurial spirit and opportunity for exchange. Our goal is to support young American talent so that it may achieve its utmost potential on the international stage, we are thrilled to present the third year of the American Design Honors to the world.” Comment Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat.
CULTURAL EXCHANGE

At WantedDesign Brooklyn
Curators: Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, co-founders of WantedDesign
This exclusive exhibit was initiated in 2016 by WantedDesign, and developed as a collaboration with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. Through the creation of French-American duos, comprised of one designer and one manufacturer each team experimented and explored new realms, forms and objects together. The exhibit features the documentation of the process and result of this unprecedented dialog that brings different cultures, design approaches and savoir faire together in one sublime expression.
After a first session that was showcased at WantedDesign Brooklyn in 2016, the Transatlantic adventure continues in 2017 with 5 new “manufacturer + designer” duos.
