Rocking Chair
Armchairs from Artifort, Designed by Geoffrey Harcourt
Product description
Concept
Irresistible comfort
Who can resist a rocking chair? It reminds us of our childhood when our parents lulled us to sleep or you rocked as high as you could. Now you simply relax and rock yourself into daydreams of distant paradise resorts and happiness beyond measure. Rocking has to be the ultimate way of relaxing.
In fact, a rocker base on Harcourt’s much-loved and extremely comfortable 500-series shell chairs provides incredible comfort. The shell chairs in this series, each of which has its own characteristic upholstery, are already great on a fixed base. Now that the original rocker base has been restored to its place of honour, they are absolutely irresistible.
The construction
Pressed beech shell covered with foam, Dacron and fabric or leather. The base is made of tubular steel with oak rockers.
The Designer - Geofrrey D. Harcourt RDI
Geoffrey Harcourt (1935) trained at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1962, he designed his first series of small office fauteuils for Artifort. His designs introduced Artifort to the international market for contract design. In the beginning, Harcourt designed mostly seats for reception areas. His first design for Artifort, the 042 series in 1963, was an immediate international success.
His philosophy is that the chair should focus on the person and not the other way around. “First the person, then
