KK41181 | Sofa with high sides

Sofas from Carl Hansen & Søn, Designed by Kaare Klint

Product description

Kaare Klint designed the KK41181 sofa for the Danish Prime Minister’s office in 1930. With high sides and crossbars beneath the seats, its construction is characteristic of Klint, elegantly combining form and function to make sitting more comfortable.

The KK41181 sofa was designed by Kaare Klint for Danish Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning in 1930. Seating three people, the well-proportioned sofa is divided into sections, each supported by their set of crossbars. Elegant to look at, the construction is also a practical addition, creating more legroom and making it easier to rise from the sofa.

When the design was presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1937, the sofa was applauded for its ‘mature expression’, and even today it exemplifies the ideal balance of graceful aesthetics and thoroughly executed functionalism.

Originally conceived for three people, the KK41181 sofa has since been supplemented with a two-seater version known as the KK41180 sofa
