170 Galaxy

Suspended lights from Cassina, Designed by Charles Eames, Ray Eames

Product description

Galaxy is a pendant lamp, designed in 1949, a product of the genius of Charles and Ray Eames, created by assembling brass tubing and automotive components inside a wooden sphere. For the first time ever, Cassina puts this masterpiece into production which, despite the considerable interest it incited, has never been mass-produced until now. Galaxy grew out of a collaboration with the Eames Office, the design studio founded by Charles and Ray in 1941, and is composed of a centre sphere that holds 36 rods of different lengths, each with its own LED light source, as if to evoke a star-studded sky. Cassina has innovated the original design with the addition of a 'plug & play' system that allows the rods to be inserted into the sphere to illuminate the space, while at the same time allowing the size of the packaging to be extremely small, compared to the dimensions of the final product.
