Parktheater Grenchen | Switzerland
from Girsberger
Product description
At the grand opening of the Parktheater Grenchen in the Canton of Solothurn, Switzerland in 1955, architect Ernst Gisel from Zurich proclaimed that there was no other building in Switzerland quite like it. In constructing this multipurpose building, which followed thirty years of planning, Mr Gisel said that Grenchen had entered totally new territory. In 2009, the Parktheater, a historic-cultural monument, became a listed building. It has since undergone careful renovation in close collaboration with the cantonal preservation authorities and Grenchen’s municipal planning department. Part of the process involved renovating and repainting the theatre’s 700 wooden chairs in five phases. The chairs are the classic Moser 1-250 model designed by Werner Max Moser in 1931. The chairs consist of a seat frame, back and legs made of shaped solid wood and are still produced today, as back then, by Horgenglarus furniture factory in Glarus. Parallel to the overhaul of the chairs, Girsberger produced and delivered eighty new, matching tables.
