HIRAM Habitat Douglas Fir Rift Solid Wide Plank Flooring
Wood flooring from HIRAM Habitat
Product description
The HIRAM Habitat Douglas fir rift & quarter sawn solid wood planks are cut from the finest part of the tree trunk. This special cutting technique aligns the annual rings nearly parallel along the plank, resulting in a calm surface appearance with clear lines and exceptional dimensional stability.
We harvest the wood for our rift and quarter sawn solid wood planks according to age-old tradition, specifically during certain lunar phases. When felled in the correct lunar cycle, the wood retains less moisture, thereby enhancing its quality in terms of strength, stability, and longevity. Wood felled under lunar influence dries more evenly and exhibits reduced susceptibility to cracking.
The rift & quartered planks are narrower and can be used for flooring, walls, and ceilings alike.

Concept
Douglas Fir Floorboards - Unique Grain for Versatile Designs
The Douglas fir is the giant of the forest - a conifer with an impressive growth span of up to 120 years. Originating from the Black Forest, our Douglas firs are sourced exclusively from sustainably managed forests. We obtain the wood for our planks from our own round timber trade. With years of experience, our staff select the noble heartwood logs and oversee them in the forest to ensure the finished plank meets our standards.
The distinctive annual ring structure enhances the natural beauty of the Douglas fir floorboards. Treatment with oil intensifies the wood grain, while treatment with lye or soap subtly softens it, creating a homogeneous and tranquil surface. These various treatment options produce delicate natural tones and vibrant color shades.
With extraordinary lengths of up to 15 meters and widths of up to 40 centimeters, room-length Douglas fir planks create an impressive spatial effect. The joint pattern creates clear lines for elegant and minimalist designs.
Every single HIRAM Habitat Douglas fir wide plank is crafted in local workshops or artisanal factories. After production, we carefully select the planks for our two grades URBAN Classic and COUNTRY Classic.
Our URBAN Classic grading features only a few small knots and a fine-grained structure. The room effect is calm and elegant.
Our COUNTRY Classic grading has a lively warm wood structure with securely glued and filled knots. They create a cozy and characterful atmosphere in the room.
Douglas fir wood is robust, durable, and easy to maintain - designed to endure for many decades.
