BUILDING PORTRAITS | Model A3.1
Rugs from Urban Fabric Rugs, Designed by Elena Manferdini
Product description
100cm x 100cm
New Zealand wool
Limited Edition of 5
This Limited Edition collection of handmade area rugs is an adaptation of drawings and images by Architect, Artist and Academic, Elena Manferdini. “Building Portraits” offers a new perspective on our urban environments, exploring elements of Facade, Fenestration and Grids in the context of Mies van der Rohe’s seminal architectural high rises. The Miesian towers are austere, minimalist plinths, found in numerous North American urban centers like New York, Chicago, Toronto and Montreal.
Manferdini studied the cross-overs between representations of these buildings as architectural drawings (vector information) and architectural photos or portraits (pixel information). The relentless grids of the architecture are compressed with the reflections of its urban surroundings as well as revealed glimpses of the environment contained within. With the combination of these three layers of vector and pixel information, the generic architectural grid is abstracted to convey a more site-specific and intimate depiction of a building. With this Limited Edition collection, Elena Manferdini + Urban Fabric present abstracted new rug patterns derived from the inherent grids found within our built environments.
Our handmade Designer rugs are tufted from 100% New Zealand wool and are suitable for floor or wall applications. The rugs are carefully crafted by artisans with multiple cut pile heights to create a plush 3D relief texture and detail.
